Well, if you are interested in a remotely piloted "drone" upon which you would integrate an APRS transmitter (with some hacking), this is commercially available:
http://ardrone2.parrot.com/usa/
It is small, but "suitable" is a relative term. And you should be able to operate it from your iPhone.
