Not PSK31, but PSK63 (twice the speed) *is* used with a dedicated sound card
application "APRS Messenger". See my web page at
. <http://wa8lmf.net/APRS_PSK63>
for details. This is used primarily on the 30 meter-band at 10.149.700 --
two hundred Hz above the upper tone for classic AX.25 packet-based APRS.
(FSK tone pair for 300 baud AX.25 HF packet APRS is 10.149.200 Mhz /
10.149.4500 Mhz.) The two systems are so close that they can be received
simultaneously in the passband of a normal HF/SSB rig. In fact I am receiving
both modes at once through a 500 Hz CW filter on USB on my TS-440, with the
passband tuning cranked way high to pass the audio range from 1600 Hz to 2100 Hz.
The APRS Messenger app is a combination of a PSK/GMSK sound card soft TNC, an
APRS messaging client and an igate/digipeater function in a single program. It
doesn't do mapping itself, but can be linked via TCP/IP to any normal APRS
client such as APRSis32, UIview, APRSpoint, etc for mapping displays.
Note that the APRS Messenger program encapsulates a typical APRS payload with
standard packet-style headers and checksum before modulating the PSK or GMSK
carrier. As a result, normal PSK programs such as Digipan or MixW can't
inter-operate with APRS Messenger. At the current time, Messenger can only
talk with other copies of itself. However it is incredibly more effective on
weak noisy bands than classic 300-baud HF AX.25 packet. Igates are
already operating in North America and Europe for this new mode, but I don't
know about AU and NZ.
