This utility is a USB software solution, no need to crack the case.  I
use it to change the serial number of my FTDI devices, so my mac sees
/dev/tty.usbserial-0000000 instead of /dev/tty.usbserial-4F67hf9E.

It could break other software, though, if it depends on the custom IDs.
