Hi Stephen and others,

Thanks everyone for the feedback. You are right about the importance of 
that.  I did mention it in the list of things the VX-8GR lacks ("TNC 
mode") as well as in the list of things the D72A has - maybe I didn't 
word it very well?

To KE6SLS - I have never tried the weather alert features on any of 
these radios, but agree with you that if it doesn't work, that's an 
important thing to know.

I too appreciate that Kenwood does update the D72A and noted that in the 
review as well.  Alongside that, I appreciate how Kenwood hasn't changed 
their basic connectors for years.  That makes a surprising difference in 
my morale ;-)
