Right. These are two other special types of devices that are defined
in the USB standard: Mass Storage and Human Interface Device (HID).
What you won't find is support for a device that requires a custom
driver, like a printer (which used to have a simple RS232 or
Centronics interface before the "progress" of USB).

While I really like FTDI and think Prolific is crap, both are making
the problem much much worse by providing competing non-standard
solutions to the problem. What we really need are vendors to target
the standard CDC (Communications Device Class) type of serial device
that is built in to the USB standard (thanks Scott). If peripherals
follow a standard, then an embedded USB host implementation has a
better chance of supporting it.
