I soldered the Power Pole metal pieces onto the wires, and then slid those
into the Power Pole housings. It's never caused a problem, and I prefer to
solder those versus using the crimp. I believe it does help.

Are you sure that because of the extreme conditions you describe you haven't
taken steps to make sure that none of the connectors are stressed (because
of care you took when installing all cables?) I have trouble simply
keeping an Elecraft transverter connected---any movement results in
"connector failure."
