I was thinking of asking this same question several months ago.
Both my Kenwood (dead) and the Batteries America batteries (past its prime) have had it, so I looked at this. I also acquired some really nice, internal protection, flat 3.7 V 1300 mah Li-Ion cells for a job last year.
On the Kenwood pack I was able to break free the sides up to the upper and lower latch points. Unfortunately the top and bottom edges appear to be welded and I haven't been able to even find the parting lines around the latch parts.
Along the top looks obvious, but many passes with the Exacto failed to break through.
At the bottom, I can't see where the parting line is around the latch parts.
I was wondering if it is viable to just cut the pack-front aross the top and bottom, inside the real parting lines, and get things out then back in.
I was thinkin' perhaps 'someone' is willing to destroy one and take photos, just to see how things look in-side...(;-)
