We have a Bergey/Evergreen wind/solar 1.5 KW system at our house which powers 
our ham radios with APRS (just wanted to keep it on subject somehow) and some 
other things.  Our electric co-op was very specific on what we had to do if we 
wanted to sell power to the co-op, and the requirements were the transfer switch 
and the increased insurance, plus they came out and 'inspected' our system, 
which was installed professionally.  You could do it yourself, but we were not 
up to that level of complexity.
