Whilewe are talking about configuring one's D700 (or D7), do not forget it can be used as an HF control station if someone in the area has a TS-2000 enabled with "generic" skycommand.

This way, everyone in a club or group can use their D700 mobile rig to control or monitor HF. Using generic settings, all of their D700's see the TS-2000's front panel at the same time. Usually only one person is controlling, but at least everyone can see the virtual HF rig on their D700/7's front panel.

If they tune in the link frequency, they can hear the HF, and can push PTT and talk and can SEE on their D700's the HF front panel frqeuncy and modes. Think of it as a group HF operation round-table but everyone can share the mic.

See www.aprs.org/skycommand.html

Another often overlooked capability of Sky command is that ANY radio with an external TNC and a laptop can also do it, The links are simply audio on VHF and UHF and the controls are PL and CTCSS and of course PACKET. Just use Hyperterm program and you can manually send the packet commands to control the radio and to SEE the modes and freq.

If someone in your club has a TS2000, twist his arm to let everyone use it while he is not.
