That should actually work around here!   The bottom (non-voice-only in 
the US) part of 40 is relatively free of broadcast QRM.


The frequency cited above works out to actual RF mark and space 
frequencies of

     7.034.400   and
     7.034.200    

I'll give my Kenwood TS-690 a try with MixW as a packet soft modem 
tonight and see what, if anything, I can hear.  At least what I can hear 
through the horrendous noise level  of a nearby leaking digital cable TV 
trunk line.....
