[aprssig] Lowrance HDS-5 Baja Off-Road GPS Chartplotter and APRS

[K7FTP]

The screen size on the 540c is hard to beat, and it is very clear.  That was 
one of the factors that weighed in heavily when we decided to install and 
recommend it.

The topo maps that you can get for free for the Garmin beat the Lowrance 
maps for updates and resolution, but the Lowrance Topo Freedom USA are not 
bad if you are not looking for city data.

The TM-D700A and 540c make a great combination.  You can have the 540c 
display waypoints sent to it from the 700A representing APRS positions 
received, but we usually leave that turned off to keep clutter down.  During 
special events or SAR ops it can be turned on quickly.
