Hi All..

Over here (The UK) there are a few minor questions about the legality of
Trackers, not APRS as such.

The reasoning goes along the lines of, that we should be able to receive
using the same mode as we transmit.  Most trackers though they may be
aware of other channel traffic, can't be claimed (afik) that they can
"receive" in the same mode as they transmitted.   Also AFIK, that
applies to the end to end setup, antenna to user, so just because a
transceiver used with a tracker is capable of receiving in the same
mode, I wouldn't take it as gospel that if push came to shove, that the
authorities would see it the same way, if you had the RX speaker muted,
while used with something like a TT.

Radios with built in decoders and displays I guess would be formaly
acceptable, if it was ever needed to justify things.

However, that does not seem to worry anyone, let alone the authorities
here, so it's business as usual.

Our Ham licences here allow us to use just about any mode known, or any
as yet to be developed with no need to advise the licensing peeps, so
long as we don't interfere with any primary users, and stay in band and
within power levels, or otherwise cause mayhem.

All we need to do, is log (in a lot of cases, even that is not a
"reqirement" now) what we do, and when.

Interesting though, watching all the discussion re the US Part 97 and
all that.
