[aprssig] D710 display head software emulator?

Hi..

It depends what you mean by an "Open" interface.

Many rigs have a remote control facility, via CAT or CI-V or whatever,
that is often well documented in the manual that (usually) comes with
the radio. If not, most can be found on the web somewhere.

If on the other hand you mean, to hack the radios internal comms,
between for example the main and head units, then the only one I know
of, is the IC706, where several people have documented somewhat
successfull attempts to utilise that control method. With that rig
though, you need to maintain a fairly regular rapid exchange of info, or
the rig decides there is a comm's failure and powers down. Google for
IC706 remoting, for example, should find you something.

Perhaps the Kenwood's have a similar scheme? Otherwise, do your own
custom GUI, then just use the radio's "normal" remote control port. At
least that is documented.

Regards.

Dave G0WBX.

Whoops... Sorry for the empty post. Apparently, Hotmail doesn't
work with Linux anymore. Here is what the post was supposed to contain:

	Hello to all,

As a follow on to my post regarding a Touchscreen APRS software
(and cross-posting from the TM-D710_TM-V71 yahoo group). I have yet
another question that I believe may be best answered by the aprssig
folks...

Is there a software program available that takes the place of
the D710 display head? I am looking to do a very clean APRS 2m/70cm
mobile install. I would like to have the radio completely controlled by
a PC with an in-dash touchscreen interface. The only piece of radio
hardware I want to touch or see is the mic.

I would appreciate any and all suggestions. I think the APRS
equivalent of the ten-tec omni vii is what I am looking for.

	>From the ten-tec site: "That's not all: the latest GUI source
code (written in Visual Basic) and complete programming instructions can
be downloaded to build your own GUI."

Is there a mobile radio out there that has an open computer
interface?

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Fred KJ4LFJ - New ham having fun
