[aprssig] Inserting NMEA Data to APRS-IS

My question would be "If they have already gathered the information at their HQ, what is the purpose for inserting this information onto APRS-IS?" If it is to get the information to individual amateur radio stations on RF or APRS-IS, that would be a good use of APRS-IS (amateur radio to amateur radio).

If it is to disseminate the information to their branch/chapter offices, they have other private means to do this (even though it is amateur radio information, the purpose in this case is non-amateur use) and APRS-IS is a very inefficient transport. In this case, there is a commercial version of javAPRSSrvr that cannot feed to APRS-IS but can be set up to do their own private network which I would be happy to discuss off-list with you.

The APRS-IS is an APRS transport. So any injection of information must conform to APRS specifications. I would venture to say that there are a number of scripts, etc. that have been posted over the years that show how to connect and send APRS information. You might want to search the list archives. There is also information at www.aprs-is.net on the specifications to connect and communicate via APRS-IS.
