It does NOT announce the originating callsign and it does NOT read the message without the sender activating this.
If the sender starts a message with "%" the radio announce the callsign and read the message letter by letter.
(pretty useless as most people don't know about the % function)
The following wish in a future firmware has been delivered to a Kenwood representant:
Speech announce when receiving messages even without the “%” in front of the message.
I.e “Message from: callsign” or just “callsign” “New bulletin”
Just announce the senders callsign. Must be possible to turn off independent from other voice/sound functions
