Hello everybody,
during the Friedrichshafen HAM RADIO I bought the new Kenwood TM-D710
which I intend to use in my car for mobile APRS operations.
I have a Procom GPS/FM/144MHz/435MHz/GSM Antenna installed on the roof
of the car, so there's an external GPS-Antenna with preamplifier
available. Garmin provides competitive OEM GPS modules, I have the
"GARMIN GPS 15H-W" which has a connector for an external antenna
(voltage: 8 - 40 V DC, current: 50mA nominal). I was thinking about how
to install it in the car and connect it to the TM-D710. The GPS should
power up when I press the PWR button of my TM-D710 and power down when
the TM-D710 is switched off. That is the goal ;-)
On the Internet I found a very nice solution from Green Light Labs, the
"GPS-710" (http://www.greenlightlabs.com/gps-710/).
I would buy it immediately if I had not bought the GARMIN some month ago
OR if it had a connector for an external antenna ;-)
The GPS-710 gets the power out of the operation panel cable. So my
question is, does anybody on the list know the exact pinout of the
operation panel connector on the TRX unit? Then I would connect my
GARMIN GPS the same way like the GPS-710.
The MIC connector has a pin with 8V DC but it only provides 100mA and
I'm not shure if this is enough, because the microphone has leds
included...The GPS would take 50-60mA.
Thanks a lot for your help!
