Yes, for small groups.  But its exponential loading will fail on
the one day (Field Day) it is needed most unless some kind of
throtteling mechanism is designed in before then.

Throtteling at some huge threshold won't break it.  And I don't
think that using APRS at Field Day is a pipe dream.  I can think
of no better place for APRS and a properly managed CQ Server
than the premier event in Ham Radio, Field Day.  The ultimate in
reality.

Too bad.  A CQ Server is a good concept and it will work great
for all groups.  But ignoring the potential overload at Field
Day is being short sighted when just a little engineering could
manage that problem as well.   Being able to do national CQ's
with managed load limiting would have been a great new
capability to bring APRS to Field Day.

What fun it would be...

APRS is a two way system.  Helping operators find other live
operators is a needed capability.  And your CQSRVR is a big step
in that direction.
