The latter. According to the original poster, the
radio stops the memory scan and does not resume it
after the beacon goes out. So you must either use PTT
mode (which defeats the purpose of automatic beacons
when you're not actively talking) or you must
constantly reach over and resume the scan manually
after every beacon.

I would agree. My operating habit is to scan lots of
repeaters as I'm going about whether with my HT or my
mobile that way I can hear what's going on and I can
be reached if desired. So I don't want my radio
beaconing out my frequency because it's always
changing. The behavior of the D710 was suggesting
that this frequency insertion mode was trumping
whatever other operating method I wanted (namely no
frequency insertion and continuous memory scan) which
I found unacceptable. But since it's a bug, then I'll
know to at least wait for the next set of radios to
ship with the bug fix before I consider getting one.
