Keep in mind, your callsign doesn't have to be "embedded" in
digipeated signals, just beaconed at the end of every 10 minutes
during which a transmission occurred. Legally.

APRS spec however requires embedding the digipeater ID (be it tactical
or callsign) in every packet. But, if you don't want to deal with the
programming, you could deviate from spec (as long as it's legal). I
wouldn't encourage this in busy areas, but in the wilderness where
you're not going to interfere with anyone else, it's not much of a
problem.
