Hi Andy!
I did a quite simple, but effective thing when i had some similar "problem" with G3RUH wirh DRCI SCC card..
The problem is probably in the receiver output.. use HEX inverter with RxD and DCD to have a clean "new" RxD.
This perhaps give you some ideas to solve it..

Subject: [aprssig] RF Modules for GPS data transfer
An obesrvation:-
1. I started sending NMEA data over 433 MHz OOK (on off keying) with some success.
2. Now I am trying radiometrix modules, which seem to work great with 100% data throughput
but
when you are not sending data, the module puts out gibberish.
I am wondering if I shud be keying up the TX and using the carrier detect on the rx to get the thing to work properley.
I was under the impression a 1 or a 0 applied would swing the module to an idle state.
comments ?
I have gone from OOK to FSK.
Cheers
