Will the radio accept the 'magic string' while in packet mode?

Mine is consistent: it never does.
I put together a little microcontroller circuit that sends the magic
string for powering on to the D700 serial port.
My list of things to do includes building a new circuit that watches
vehicle power and turns the D700 off and on as appropriate. I may
not get to that one for a while, since what I have now works. (:
I have done this using a relay with a time delay and also had the problem of
the D700 not coming on consistently when power is applied to it. Eventually
it became consistent like yours, never coming on. It was fixed by doing a
full reset. Thankfully all of the memories and menu settings were easily
restored thanks to MCP-D700.
What is the magic string? That might be useful information to have in the
future if it acts up again.
