On another note, I was going to go out to the truck and
get the rig and experiment but got to thinking about just
trying my TS480 and see if it would run headless - it does! 

I'm using the Kenwood ARCP480 free program and have
been using it headless for about 20  minutes now and so
far all commands respond...I know this is not the D700, but
thought that I would pass this along. If the 480 can work, 
then most likely the D700 should also, no?
