It already supports TNC access through the use of the javax.comm libraries. 
There are several different versions of javax.comm around for different OSes. 
Send me an email if you can't find one, and I'll help you get it setup.

Google earths limit on cached data is pretty small, compared to what would 
really be useful.  I sometimes use the "fly" feature of google earth to populate 
the cache along paths that I will be traveling without network access.
