Thanks for all the replies. I guess I'll try different settings and 
see what happens. 
Is there a way to see if I made it to FINDU by using my cell phone? 
If not then I'll have to call my brother and have him log on from home 
to let me know if I made it.

WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1 might work better than plain WIDE2-2 for your mobile
station, especially in remote areas.  Both are reasonable two hop
digipaths,
but only WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1 can take advantage of any "fill-in" digis in
the
neighborhood to help get your packets into the VHF network.
