If there will be no one riding in the passenger seat, then there is a
solution that is very cheap.  At Office Depot if found a computer
support that is similar to a pillow with a board on top.  The pillow
covering is velor and the top has some sort of leather like material
glued to the top of it.

You place it in the passenger seat and the velor covered pillow
supports it firmly.  Since the top is flat it lets the computer stay
ventilated and cool.  I'm not sure these are sold as computer holders,
but rather portable desk space for writing.

There are photos of something similar to what I have at
http://www.levenger.com/Pagetemplates/Product/MorePhotos.asp but mine
has a padded lip at the bottom instead of a elastic bands to keep
stuff from sliding off and no handle.  Definitely not a permanent
solution, but good on trips if you don't have a passenger and you
don't have to stare at the computer while your driving.
