upgrades to 8.2 firmware are not expensive and can make a verion 5 or 6
kpc-3 usable with the new setings.

One from that era can only be used as a "home fill-in" WIDE1-1 digipeater.
Nice TNC. Very low current consumption. Can't do "new paradigm" settings.

Probably $20 to $100.... $20 would be a good deal for you and $100 would be 
a very good deal for your friend. They were priced very low (at least here) 
when they first came out but then the price went up on them a few months 
later. Perhaps you could take a look on eBay and see if there are any listed

to come up with a suggested price.
