Yes, you can have a letter for an SSID with D-STAR, but it's recommended
that you not use A, B, C and some other letters since they are often used
for routing calls affiliated with D-STAR repeaters.
I have a radio designated as KC5ZRQ-L to indicate that it is a "Link".
