[aprssig] APRS outside of ham radio ? (was it Lives)

Scott,

There is a re-newed interest in APRS down here.

I needed to put together a demo box.

People seem to want to "hear" and "see" it working.

That particular enclosure takes a 9Volt battery in the back.

I am doing some time tests now.

The battery is actually a 8.4 V rechargeable at 200 mA

The LED off is 12 mA and the LED on is 26 mA.

The local rural fire brigade wants a hand tracking their trucks.

I am wondering what / if are about using the APRS format on other bands
besides hams ?

What is the miniumum callisign length etc ?

Looks good, Andrew.  How long ago did you order that one?  I was thinking it
was fairly recent, but all of the current batch of boards are black.
There's not really any electrical difference, I just thought they looked
cool that way.  =]  There may have been some green boards still waiting to
be shipped, I'm not sure.

I wanted to get a batch done in red, but if I don't want to pay extra I've
got to go with whatever the board house happens to have ready to go.

You might start seeing OpenTracker boards with a gold finish, but that's
more for RoHS (lead-free) compliance in Europe than for looks.
