Thanks for your help - I am doing a full system scan
Some points to note
1) I had disabled all power control as part of the investigation
2) The laptop is new and has a good battery - confirmed from power run tests
3) It has been a while since my virus update has been done
4) Windows firewall has an issue - looking for hacks

spyware/malware which will do that as well.
