Hadn't seen that, but it reminded me of a couple of questions.

Garmin GPS receivers output vertical speed, both in NMEA mode (PGRMV) and
Garmin mode. First, does anyone know how accurate these speeds are? I
suspect they're goint to give more accurate results than computing the
difference between two altitude readings, anyway.

Second, what format should vertical speed be in for an APRS position? I'm
thinking of adding this to at least my new tracker design, and maybe to the
current OpenTracker if there's room. I suspect feet/minute will be the most
useful measure for the largest number of people - if I remember right, even
outside the US aircraft report altitudes in feet, and presumably
rate-of-climb in feet/minute as well. As for the actual format, I'll
probably go with something like '-1200 FPM' - or for better parseability and
consistency, maybe something like '/V=-1200'.
