True, but sometimes stations are travelling in the same direction on
the same highway. ;-) I stayed in range of one station that I "met"
via voicealert for a good 30 minutes or so. Like I said, it's a great
way to be aware of other mobile hams on a long trip.

It's not in the manual, but then again, a lot of things that are done
with APRS are not in the manual especially since it has evolved quite
a bit since that manual was written.

Well, then that is their problem and they should be "corrected" for
this bad behavior. I would hope that most hams are smarter than that
though.
Anyway, nobody is forcing this on you. Use it if you like, if not,
it's no big deal. It works for me.
