Sorry, but this is _completely_ wrong. The original poster was correct.

exponents add when you multiply. 2^32 * 2^ 32 = 2^(32+32) = 2^64

32 * 32 + 32 * 32 is nonsense.

12 bits give you 4096 unique values, not 2048.
