Here are the statistics as of 1800 on 6 May 2005
of all the APRS digipeaters in the world from FINDU:

New-N-Paradigm Digis:
  L type digis    (98)   New-N's (some may be S's)
  S type digis  (113)   New-N's that support SSn-N 
  P type digis    (10)   New-N   Paccomms
  1 type digis    (13)   New-N   one-hop digis

Old style digis:
  N types  (727)   Old WIDEn-N's that flood
  T types  (123)   obsolete PacComm Trace digis
  U types  (195)   UIDIGI ROMS needing updating
  D types    (90)   DIGI_NED software needing updating
  R types    (97)   obsolete RELAY only digis
  W types   (29)   obsolete WIDE-only digis

As of today, I have defined another OVERLAY
character to identify those KPC3 version 8.2 old style
ROMS that can only support WIDEn-N in the
UIFLOOD parameter.  Please see the New-N-Paradigm

So progress is being made, especially now that all
the reported anomolies have been found in some of
the digipeater code out there... and workarounds
have been developed.
