I've been following this thread "lightly" so I may have missed
something... But I think this is worth mentioning since the name Astron
came up. These supplies use a SCR crowbar in the case of overvoltage
that shunts the supply's output to ground until the supply is reset.
It's bad enough that you have to drive out to some remote site to reset
the supply, but now imagine you have a 200amp hour battery hanging on
the supply floating at 13.6 volts. If that crowbar kicks in, you'll not
only shunt the supply to ground, you'll shunt that battery too!
