Ahh, but there is a way around that problem with the d700.... you can 
program it
to a=TX b=RX mode and set teh A vfo to 144.39, and B vfo to 144.99.  You will
also need to program the tnc to DCD sense from both sides.

There is nothing you can't do with a d700, a basic stamp, duct tape, a flux
capacitor and dilithium crystals.  lol.
