Ah, but that wasnt the question.
The question was whether client software would properly
receive this 3rd party packet off the air... since it had a
7 character call...

place holders for a good looking formatted display on the
D7 and D700 mobiles. The intended targets for this
information. Here is how it flashed on the front panel
screen of the D7 or D700:

> STN4090
   442.850Mhz
  +71.9IDLE_
   kb2faf

Though the D7 only has the first 3 lines and does not
display that callsign at the bottom. This display
gives the mobile oberator everything he needs to know
to establish a voice QSO with any other active APRS
station

> 90% of the Igates are not going to gate these objects.

Lets wait and see. I think the marriage of the local
situational awareness of APRS is a perfect application
for this. And I think IRLP and EchoLink are a lot of the
future of HamRadio. I think eventually all IGates will
be doing it. If we can just get them to do it right.
LOCAL ONLY.

>I will be totally surprised that with will be acceptable on
>the APRS-IS. You will have a handful of folks that will
>whine like stuck pigs that they do not want this stuff on
> the APRS-IS. Good Luck!

Then I think they are being short sighted and not
fully understanding the ever increasing integration of
Ham Radio with the FREE global connectivity of the
Internet. Hams use what is free and what is available
and despite the moans of purists, it really keeps the
Ham Radio hobby moving and interesting...

I predict that using APRS to help with the end-to-end
voice links between APRS operators using IRLP and
EchoLink will be a fantastic success..
