[aprssig] how to contribute?

Dave,
Yes, Mark's suggestion is a good one.
1.) Many of the APRS software packages available will perform the I-gate
function. I am familiar with UI-View (my first choice) and APRS+SA (second
choice). If you run Linux there are a couple of other options as will.
There are other Windows programs that do I-gating as well, WinAPRS and
APRSDos, but I'm not familiar with those programs.
2.) Yes, as the listen only I-gate connects to the APRS-IS server it really
doesn't matter what the machines IP address is. Running on a DSL is great.
Depending on the filter you set up in your program and the amount of data
coming to you from the APRS-IS server, you will only see a small amount of
traffic on your DSL. I run my I-gate with a filter of m/805 which brings
into my machine all the reports from 500 miles (805 km) around and it only
cost me about 2-3% of my bandwidth. My I-gate runs 24/7 and the I-gate has
had zero effect on my other Internet use.
Give it a try. In certain area of the country we sure could use more
I-gates.

I like that idea, and it brings two questions to mind:
1.) What software is needed/recommended to run a listen only i-gate?
2.) Can it be done on a DSL connection with a DYNAMIC IP address, or does it
require a STATIC one?
