Is there much APRS experimentation going on with the Basic Stamps? I've
never used them myself. I've got a version of the OpenTracker almost ready
to go that fits in the same footprint, and should be pin-compatible with the
BS2 as far as the power pins and such are concerned. No particular reason
for that, but they had to go somewhere and I figured that might allow it to
be used on a BS2 carrier board.
I haven't found a good source for the press-fit edge pins like the BS2 uses,
though... and I'm a little worried about the feasibility of installing them
by hand. For now I'm just using regular 0.1" pin headers instead.

Subject: [aprssig] Update - PIC-EL, MEPIS, Basic Stamp
The disk library has expanded some . I just added the ProMEPIS disk
2005.b03. Mepis beta disks are quite stable as beta's go. I ran this disk
for several hours and exercised much of it and couldn't find anything to
complain about. I was particularly impressed that it came up running on my
network and picked up the workgroups and machine names of the two Macs and
one Windows machine as well the Netgear printserver and its own name and
workgroup from the Windows partition on the HD of the machine on which I ran
it. This is a very nicely configured distro!
The PIC-EL/Elmer 160 is current at v 6.62 of MPLAB (I am holding off on 7.00
until WB8RCR says its ready for prime time). It has lessons and source code
through lesson 15. And all the usual suspects of documentation. Thanks to
RCR , we now have WinPIC and the INI file for the PIC-EL. And a 20 MB of
code and documentation for turning garden variety PICS into Basic Stamps.
There are a couple of different approaches, some of the code is ragged and
needs work some of it is slick and clean. Included in this is a PIC
Disassembler which will be of great help in many ways. Also a Roll-Your-Own
PBASIC compiler.
The BASIC Stamp Resources disk has undergone a major revamping. All of the
previous purchasers will be receiving a free upgrade disk in the next week
or so. I added another 60 MB of documentation, source code and schematics
for various Basic Stamp projects I found around the web, as well as an
additional set of great tutorials. (Putting this disk together has been like
a world wide scavenger hunt ... Its amazing the places I have found
resources for the Parallax Basic Stamp)
