I would add, "works" is defined here as:

Win2kPro, Tecra 8000 Laptop, XP Pro SP4.

"Works" with:
Hyperterm, APRS+SA using a Garmin 45 on the USB and a tnc on the "real" 
serial port.l

Delorme's Topo4 and Street Atlas 9, using a Garmin 45 on either USB or 
"real" serial port.

VX-1R programming software from Yaesu Via RT systems, both types of ports.

Probably a few others uses, those are the ones off the top of my head.
