An additional change that I made was:

GPSPORT 2400 NORMAL NOCHECK

but it still does not seem to work.

I also tried hooking up my Ultimeter II to a Byonics WXtrak but it 
appears to not support the Ultimeter II in "#" mode and I don't know 
haw to change it to "!!" mode.
