The whole goal of the "new paradigm" was to get a path that eliminates 
the ping-ponging of duplicate packets between digipeaters.  If the 
digipeaters are set up correctly and it's a WIDEn-n packet, then you 
will only see each packet one time per digipeater.  Using a wide area 
path sends the packet out further to more digis - it doesn't (at least 
it shouldn't) result in any additional duplicate packets in one area.
