I used something nearly identical fro a school project, just to get a
"wireless serial cable". It worked okay, but the power output was so
low, the range was only good for the demo (wouldn't have worked for a
usable version of the particular project). We got quite a few serial
errors -- and these had the built-in clock recovery, encoding, etc.
