I'd check the specs/ manual carefully, as for 6 cells, that is (at the 
start of life of the new cells) 1.2v above alkalines. Older (real old) 
Icoms were picky about this type of over voltage.

A lot of devices "assume" the high voltage is cells x 1.5  This could 
certainly cause issues.
