(1) In 2 meter repeater operation;
I usually run 'full duplex' at home and sometimes in the car.
When I don't hear what I am sending transmitted by the repeater,
I (usually) release my PTT.  ;-)

(2) I use the repeater output as an indication of whether there
is activity on its input.  So, literally, I am monitoring multiple
frequencies.
