1) For anything to work wheen needed, it must always work
2) And users need to play with it and practice using it
3) Such use and practice are "impossible" on APRS
    because the channel is saturated and it couldnt
    possibly link to another node with any reliability with all

4) Thus it would demonstrate nothing of value and you
    would have no idea how it would work when you did
   need it..

Now, I am HAPPY that you have it there and available,
Do not missunderstand me.  That is far better than nothing.
I'm just pointing out that 
 if we want people to play with conventional packet,
find new uses for it and pass stuff point-to-point, we
should not shoot-it-in-the-foot by cripling it  with 100% QRM
on 144.39

Hmmmm ...  don't mean to stir up the pot .. but I don't agree that it
should 
necessarily be on another frequency.  My station is designed to operate
as 
an emergency BBS, Digi, and KAnode during emergency times (defined as
loss 
of commercial power)  It will NOT be an APRS station during those times
(the 
computer will not be powered)

Under those circumstances (widespread loss of commercial power) the
local 
APRS network will be a shadow of it's former self (if it is still there
at 
all)
