Perhaps you didn't know the original APRS IS hub was Mac-only, aprsd didn't come
along for perhaps a year or two after APRServ, and javAPRSSrvr is a relative
newcomer, but deservedly the key to the hub system now. In fact David (who asked
the question at the head of this thread) was responsible for the second Mac
server for quite some time. Greg took over providing a second hub after David
had to back out, and of course Greg is also a Mac man, which is why second runs
on a Mac. Even before that, MacAPRS was the first client program written, after
Bob's own APRSdos. Seems like a couple lifetimes ago now...

Like most things involving personal computing, Macs were at the forefront of
APRS! There, people on the SIG has been too nice lately, that should stir things
up ;-)

Enough history....more on topic, instead of first.aprs.net you can use the
shorthand 1.aprs.net (and 2.aprs.net, etc.), and there is also a name
rotate.aprs.net that steps through the core servers (now 1-4), so you can place
just one name in the connect list, and this is updated whenever a core server
goes on or offline...
