Huh? What's this about the future of UI-View looking bleak? It works great, does everything as advertised, and it has an open architecture with lots of great add-ons. I know you are referring to the fact that Roger G4IDE passed away two months ago, but his departure isn't going to "break" anything in UI-View. It's great that there are other programs and that some of them like Xastir are still in active development, but you went to ask...

I'll let Xastir users answer that, but UI-View32 does a terrific job of this.

UI-View32 makes a terrific intelligent digipeater as well as a really smart IGate.

Being an Xastir question, I'll let an Xastir user answer that, and I hope you get lots of replies from Xastir users, but the shape files are properly displayed and work fine in UI-View32.

This isn't meant to be a dig at Xastir or to put down other APRS applications. I'm just trying to put to rest the idea that "UI-View is dead." Unfortunately, the author is, and the actual program won't be developed any further, but Roger's demise did NOT mean the end of UI-View. It just meant that the APRS community lost a good friend. There are literally thousands of UI-View users world-wide, with over a thousand new registered users over the last couple of months or so. There are probably more than a handful of people that lost the original registration and re-registered to get UI-View going on a new computer, but that is a lot of new users considering that you think "the future looks bleak" for UI-View. I don't think it is going away anytime soon. Some users will be tempted to try other programs such as Xastir and other programs if and when they come along, but in the meantime, UI-View is still the most-used and trusted APRS program.
