Notes from PSWS / TangerineSDR call of 09-13-2021

1. Discussion on SD card I/O issues with Raspberry PI. Some recommendations include: USB stick (but these can have issues), and SSD drive. Rob mentioned he sets up a RAM disk and does the data processing and reduction in RAM before writing the (much smaller) dataset to storage. Disk drivers have some mutexes in the kernel which may glitch some timing. Power supply and lack of UPS also have caused some folks problems.

2. Dave mentioned to TAPR DCC folks to ignore the many sign-up for zoom accounts links that have been mistakenly sent out. The correct link (not requiring zoom registration) will be sent out shortly before the conference (and was sent when a person originally registered for the DCC on the TAPR store).

3. TAPR Digital Communication Conference (DCC) is this week - September 17 and 18.

4. The Linux on MAX10 project failed. The key files appear to be missing from the git repository and the kernel cannot be built. The binary has enough tables stripped out that reconstructing an ELF file was not possible (i.e. trying to guess the compressed kernel call address table). Other issues arose with the Altera HAL not supporting the processor used by the Linux project (NIOS2/F). The software that comes with the MAX10 Rev C development kit was finally located after going through many many dead links.
