[TangerineSDR] Notes from PSWS / TangerineSDR call of 09-07-2019

Scotty,

Understood. I was just going to do a preliminary board outline and parts placement to see what it might look like. No traces, etc. The 3D model comes for free with parts placement.

Hi Rick,

I will send out some pictures for you.

Keep in mind that the connector placements, board sizes and even the pin-outs are preliminary. We need to build the first units as a set, and things might need to be tweaked to accommodate routing or parts placement.

My model is just the first stab at a system mechanical build.

Scotty,

Can you send a photo of what you are building? I will not be at DCC but I might be at the AMSAT meeting.

HI Rick - the connector is M.2 M-keyed (listed in the ICD, V0.3). The clock module

has the gold-plated fingers, whilst the DE contains the M.2 connector housing.

The DE has not yet called out the connector part number but the gold fingers on the

clock module should not care, since M.2 is standardized.

The pin #s are proposed at this time, Scotty has looked over the ICD and generally

agreed with what's there.

Scotty is fabricating a mechanical prototype at the current time, and described it

verbally on the call last night. The clock dimensions were about double the area of the UBlox

module, so I have concerns whether everything will fit (Ublox, DAC, filter, TCVCXO,

Synthesizer, Synth 48M crystal, SPI and I2C interfaces and discretes).

Scotty said he was planning to bring the prototype to DCC. I don't think there is a

drawing yet with the module outline and connector positioning. If you are going to be at DCC

then it would be good for you to look at it and comment on any issues. If not, one could guess

it's high up on Scotty's priority list of drawings to create.

Tom,

I am ready to experiment with parts placement and 3D rendering for the clock module but the mechanical and connector specs are still TBD in the ICD. Where is the “system mechanical drawings and mock-up”?

Notes from PSWS / TangerineSDR call of 09-07-2019

1. Tom to clarify the magnetometer document to highlight that the Ethernet extender cable carries I2C, not Ethernet, it's just
a standard off-the-shelf cable.

2. RF Modules are now 110mm x 50mm. May need to extend the board so the SMA connectors clear the next board on top.

3. Can we use 1.8V LVDS on the RF module pins, or must they be 2.5V? The Analog Devices part is 1.8V only.

4. The GPS module appears possibly tight size-wise based on the system mechanical drawings and mock-up.
