Forwarding naturally sorts out the various channels stations are heard on for mail purposes.<BR>
But if your use the "heard" lists for CONNECT activity sorting out channel requires some mental gymnastics with clock time.<BR>

The best-fit solution might be a blend?<BR>
For system management, perhaps all the ">>" should go into logs/bandlog.txt without truncation.<BR>
For user purposes then, "tail -200 logs/bandlog.txt > public/heard_history.txt".<BR>
That provides the JHEARD for on-channel, DOWNLOAD for the past day(?), plus an administrative switch history log.<BR>
And your patch removes the need to lose other useful information.<BR>
Plus, rather than a restart, add FLUSH into the process of channel switching.<BR>
It remains an interesting scripting exercise...
